Pablo National Wildlife Refuge

Pablo National Wildlife Refuge protects 2,542 acres in the Mission Valley near Polson, centered on an 1,850-acre reservoir surrounded by wetlands and grasslands. Established in 1921, it was the original release site for trumpeter swans returning to the valley and remains an important stop for waterfowl. The refuge is managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service alongside the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes and Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks.

Access is limited to the refuge’s east and north edges, where visitors can watch wildlife, fish, hike, or snowshoe depending on the season.
