About the listing The do & see
The University of Montana runs its Flathead Lake Biological Station on an 80-acre campus at Yellow Bay, on the east shore of Flathead Lake. Founded in 1899 and moved to Yellow Bay in 1908, it’s one of the oldest active biological field research stations in the country, focused on the ecology of large lakes and rivers. Researchers here have tracked Flathead Lake’s water quality for more than a century, and the station hosts summer field courses and student housing alongside its monitoring and outreach work.
